About Malappuram
         
 

Malappuram, one of the district of Kerala, was formed in 1969. The geographical area of the district is 3,550 sq. km. It is the third largest district of Kerala, as it occupies 9.13 per cent of the total area of the state. Malappuram district, with its rich natural beauty and historic past has its own tourist attractions.Four important rivers of Kerala flow through Malappuram district. They are, Chaliyar, Kadalundippuzha, Bharathappuzha and Tirurpuzha. .

 
 

Kottakunnu
Located near the district collectorate in malappuram.the fort was the first to be built by the zamorins of kozhikodeIt is an definitive fun spot for the entire family. For people, who are looking for fun and frolic with a bit of adventure, they must visit Kottakkunnu Park. This is a water theme park; an entertainment place for all age groups from children to adults. This is an ambitious joint venture by the Malappuram Municipality and Distric Tourism Promotion Council.

Mamburam
Mamburam is a famous Muslim pilgrim center located in Malappuram District of Kerala. It is situated about 26 km east of Tirur. The place is famous for the Makham, where the mortal remains of the principal Tangals, the religious leaders of Malabar Muslims, are entombed. An annual nercha festival, the Mamburam Nercha, is held here in the month of Muharram, the 1st month of the Islamic calendar. People crowd to this Makham to celebrate the nercha and pay their humble worship. The Shrine and mausoleum of the Thangals (the religious leader of Malabar Muslims) in A R Nagar village is a major pilgrimage center.

Nilabur
Nilambur is renowned for the oldest teak plantation in the world.The place is also noted for its tribal settlements, the world's first Teak Museum, vast rain forests, waterfalls and ancient kovilakoms - residences of maharajas. The oldest teak tree, Kannimari, is a rare attraction at the Conolly Plot. The plot extends across 2.31 hectares beside the Chaliyar river at Aruvakode, where a country boat ferries visitors across. Nilambur town is also famous for a cluster of kovilakoms the residences of the local rajas or rulers of earlier days. These structures, are famous for their beautiful frescoes and artworks in wood. The Nilambur Pattu an ancient festival which is noted for its Kalampattu or ritual powder drawing on floor falls in the month of February.

   
 

Teak Museum Nilabur
Four Kms, away from Nilambur, on the side of Nilambur-Gudallur road, is world’s first Teak Museum and a sub center of Kerala Forest Research Institute. In the Teak Museum, a visitor can have at hand, information on all aspects of teak. The museum, arranged in a two storied building, exhibits articles and details of historic, aesthetic and scientific value.it also houses around 55 types of bamboos and arboretum and the biggest teak in the world.

Pazhayangadi mosque
This mosque is situated at Kondotti, 18km East of Manjeri.This important pilgrim centre of the Muslims has been built 500years ago. The annual festival unique to the place, known as the “Valia Nercha”, held in February and March is indeed a grand feast for three long days. The legacy of the muslim holy man, Muhammad Shah, is intertwined with this mosque. The best time to visit the Pazhayangadi Mosque is during the colorful extravaganza of the Valiya Nercha, spread over a span of three days. This brings in its wake exotic festivities that is ineluctable.

Thunchan Memmorial
Thunchath Ezhuthachan is considered to be the father of Malayalam language. The birthplace of Ezhuthachan at Tirur is considered as a holy place and is carefully preserved. It was Ezhuthachan, who first brought out the Malayalam versions of Great Indian epics. Things like the stylus he used to write his famous work are on display at the Thunchan Memorial. The tree under which he taught his students is also a treasured exhibit of the memorial. There is a library of ancient and rare manuscripts. The Thunchan Memorial Research Centre is recognized by the Calicut University.

Adyanapara
Located in kurumbalangode village of nilabur taluk. Beautiful waterfall, suitable for trekking Adyan Para, 10 Kms. away from Nilambur. Adyanapara attracts a wide variety of exotic as well as migratory birds regularly and is rich in wildlife. It is a charming and picturesque picnic spot amidst nature’s bounty.

Nedumkayam forest
Nedumkayam is 18 km from Nilambur town. It is famous for its rich rain forests. The elephant training center also attracts tourists. The region is home to elephants, bisons, deers, tigers, blue monkeys, bears, rabbits, wild cats and a variety of birds and reptiles.

Kadalundi bird sanctuary
The place is locally known as Kadalundi Nagaram. 19 km from kozhikode.This virgin land is the abode of a hundred species of native birds and over 60 varieties of migratory birds that flock here in large numbers during February-March. hillock nearby, which is 200 m above sea level, offers a splendid view of the river mouth and the sea.

Kottakal
Kottakal is well known for the kottakal Ayurveda sala. It can be said almost without doubt that Ayurveda owes its present status to Vaidya Ratnam PS Varrier of Kottakkal, in Malappuram district of northern Kerala.one of the best ayurvedic centres in the state.the arya vidyasala runs an ayurvedic Research centre ,a nursing home and a hospital.

Padijarekkara Beach
At the end of the Tippu sulthan road near ponnani.the beach offers a breathtaking view of the confluence of the Bharatha puzha. Padinjarekara Beach Commonly known as the ‘virgin territory’.

Ponnani
Ponnani is the only port in Malappuram district and one of the oldest ones in Kerala. A tidal port at the mouth of Bharathappuzha, Ponnani is an important fishing center. Ponnani is connected by road from Kuttipputam railway station. National Highway – 17 passes through this town, which is divided by the Canolly Canal, adding to its beauty. Ponnani is a town of mosques and Khabaristans.
